Discouragement is something you will battle your entire life. You will survive it now, only to be overwhelmed by it the next time you experience a difficult time.
When we go through difficult times, our emotional, mental and physical strength is diminished. It may be the death of a loved one, a serious illness, a divorce, an accident, barrenness, the loss of a job, financial disaster, war or a lost friendship through offence and misunderstanding.
We are then the most vulnerable to being overpowered by a strongman of Discouragement. His goal is to use the window of opportunity created by our crisis and build a permanent stronghold of hopelessness, failure and defeat, thus preventing us from living a productive life.
