Psalms 139:14 says "I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." One of the wonders God created in every person is to plant in their mind's eye an image of themselves as God made them to be, with gifts and talents to equip them to fulfill their destiny.
Satan attempts to mar and distort that self image to prevent the individual from fulfilling their God given destiny. He will attempt to bring abuse, trauma and every form of cruelty possible into the person's life to mar and distort their self image. Those most affected by a marred self image are those who were subjected to abuse and trauma at an early age when the personality is most fragile.
Christ's mission as revealed in Luke 4:18 includes "healing the Broken hearted" (including those with a marred self image). Only when the self image is healed can the individual tear down the stronghold of Rejection and Low Self Esteem and drive out the demons living there.
